Britcon is a multidisciplined, building, civil engineering and surfacing contractor with an annual turnover of £25m. Despite continuing success, Britcon remains family owned and run, combining traditional values with modern management and construction techniques.

History

In 1983, Derrick Hunt founded Specialist Surfacing Ltd after seeing an opportunity to process waste materials from the Corus steelworks in Scunthorpe. The company expanded into the Hunt Group of Companies in 1990 when Derrick Hunt and Frank Hill founded Britcon as a building, civil engineering and structural steel contractor. The group has also seen the addition of Specialist Surfacing (western) and Coldmac Limited.

Communication and leadership

Britcon believes that success comes through leadership, communication and best practice management. All clients have a director in charge of their project as well as a direct route to Britcon's Managing director if the MD isn't in direct charge of their project.

Britcon's 30 strong management team has been recognised with a number of awards and our management, safety and environmental record is second to none. Britcon has achieved ISO9001 (Quality), BS5750, OSHAS 18001 (Health and Safety) and the ISO14001 (Environmental) standards. Your project is in safe hands.

Value engineering

By carefully analysing project designs and specifications, Britcon helps our clients to make substantial savings on initial budgets. Our specialists have expert knowledge of market and materials so can actively make recommendations where elements can be saved without diluting the end product or specification.

Additional savings can be added when Britcon is involved early in the project planning stage. We draw on our wide range of commercial experience and give our clients the resources they need to make informed project decisions.

Collaboration and integrated working

Britcon has a well deserved reputation for leadership in collaboration and integrated working. We develop long term partnerships across the private and public sector including a pioneering 5 year contract with central government to rebuilt VOSA heavy vehicle testing stations. This project resulted in the National 2008 Constructing Excellence Award for Collaboration and Integrated Working.
