BRITCON is nearing completion of a 1.4 million DESIGN & BUILD foot & cycle bridge over the A10 dual carriageway in Cheshunt for the Borough of Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.
The scheme is part of a larger project to improve links to the newly completed 40 million PFI funded St Mary's High School and is part of the Sustrans national cycle network to improving pedestrian and cycle access nationally leading to improved mobility and alternative modes of transport to the car and therefore improved health and well being.
Over the course of the project BRITCON ENGINEERING SERVICES has fabricated and installed 140 tonnes of steelwork in constructing the bridge itself including the extensive ramps to facilitate cycle use. BRITCON has also designed and undertaken all the civil engineering works including a 50m long reinforced cast in situ ramped exit at the East side and 220m of surfaced footpaths including improvements to the A10 curtilage and road barriers.
Due to the success of the A10 project BRITCON have now been appointed by the Diocese of St Albans to design and construct the final piece of the jigsaw linking St Mary's High School to Cheshunt, this involves the construction of -------M of new surfaced footpaths with a temporary bridge over the New river for use at the commencement of the new School term in September. With a new permanent bridge being designed fabricated and installed over the river for completion at the end of 2010.
Shaun Hunt, managing director of BRITCON's construction and engineering business, commented: "The successful delivery of this complex project to time and budget demonstrates the success of BRITCON's strategy of being a one stop shop for Highways work, involving not only Civil Engineering but steelwork design and installation and including the capacity within the Group to undertake the surfacing and specialist treatments as well."
