BIM at Britcon

Britcon’s BIM journey started in 2013 and has the support and direction of our Board who recognise the synergies of BIM with our own established collaborative culture.

The Business has invested in early diagnostics, demonstrating our initial maturity and capabilities our implementation plan and recent maturity assessment.

We have invested in training and development specifically to ensure we are competent and capable and also compliant to the PAS1192 standards and CIC protocols.

Software investment has been made, which compliments our long standing 3D design capability within our own Steel fabrication division. We have been using 3D to coordinate design and manufacturing with them for over 8 years and are well practiced in use of Tekla as our preferred clash detection and design coordination package.  Our chosen platform aligns to our supply and design partners as well as our Customers and is Autodesk / Revit based. We have enhanced our existing portal-based system and approach to sharing information and we will utilise a Common Data Environment, which meets the definitions and requirements of PAS1192:2:2013, such as Navisworks A360. Our supply chain has been assessed as to their capability and we have run training on using both the portals for business functions as well as a CDE for projects. To meet certain Customers requirements, we have had to utilize other platforms on occasions without too much difficulty.

We have put in place and to use a PAS1192-2 CDE on a pilot project in 2017 and have used our collaborative system on numerous projects over the last 5 years which enables us to manage and collaborate with design teams and site delivery teams throughout project design and delivery.

Our Business functions are also contained on this portal to administer data exchange with our supply chain on over 60 projects for design information, steel detailing and other pricing and preconstruction scope and cost inquiries.
