Britcon has complete a major expansion project for Cepac at its site in Rawcliffe Bridge, East Yorkshire.  The £2m project forms part of a continuous investment programme by Cepac for which Britcon also completed a £1m expansion to double the size of its Doncaster site earlier this year.

Cepac is the country’s leading independent corrugated packaging producer with four manufacturing/distribution sites in the UK.

The Rawcliffe plant specialises in bespoke corrugated supply chain solutions. Cepac purchased the site in 2013 and has since more than doubled turnover and increased its workforce from 75 to 125.  Key clients for the sites’ specialist products include Jaguar and Land Rover.

Britcon has extended capacity for this with a new 45,000 sq ft production and warehousing facility to enable better workflow and increase storage space.   The extension was made to an existing 100-year-old building where excavation works unearthed artefacts in the form of granite mill stones from the former factory.  Cepac are restoring these as architectural features.

Craig McLackland, Construction Director at Britcon said, “This was an interesting project given the site heritage and conservation of items found.   We built a structural steel framed building adjacent to the existing factory with a reinforced concrete floor slab.   We also completed external works including drainage, concrete yards and access roads.  The contract was very fast track and we delivered on time within a live site environment with constant movement of large lorries, staff and lorries.

This is our second project for Cepac.  Earlier this year we extended the Doncaster facility to help double manufacturing capacity and provide a new design department focused around the customer experience.”

Glen Kilburn, Engineering Manager at Cepac Rawcliffe said, “We are delighted with the works execution from Britcon.  The support from the site management team was exceptional and their knowledge is a credit to Britcon.  Nothing was too much trouble.”

Founded in 1999, Cepac is part of the international HSA Group.  It has sites in Darlington, Doncaster, Rotherham and Rawcliffe, Goole.

Britcon’s commercial sector experience includes, Markham Vale in Derbyshire, Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Sheffield, Treleigh Industrial Estate in Cornwall, and Langage Science Park in Plymouth.
