Britcon Appointed Principal Contractor for Broxtowe Small Employment Units Project
We are proud to announce that we have been appointment by the Harworth Group, a leading land and property regenerator of sustainable developments, as Principal Contractor for the construction of 13,680 sq ft of Industrial & Logistics (‘I&L’) employment space designed for start-ups and SMEs.
This development represents the first phase of employment space delivery at Bennerley, commissioned on behalf of Broxtowe Borough Council. The scheme will deliver approximately 13,680 sq ft of high-quality employment space, comprising five starter units designed to support local job creation and long-term economic growth.
Sustainability is a key focus of the project, which is targeting BREEAM ‘Very Good’ accreditation and aligns with the local authority’s Biodiversity Net Gain requirements. The scheme also includes the construction of a new access road and landscaping to enhance connectivity for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists – linking Shilo Way to the Bennerley site and the adjacent Friends of Bennerley Viaduct visitor centre.
Construction is now underway, officially launched with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by prominent local leaders and stakeholders. Broxtowe Borough Council Leader Milan Radulovic, Mayor Rob Bullock, and MP Alex Norris were among those who joined the celebration, highlighting the importance of the development for the local economy and community.
Matt Searston, Commercial Director at Britcon, commented: “We are excited to have been awarded this contract and to begin construction on the first phase of the Bennerley development, continuing our strong partnership with Harworth Group. This strategic site presents a fantastic opportunity to deliver high-quality, sustainable industrial units that will support long-term local employment and economic growth. Our focus remains on maximising opportunities for local employment and regional suppliers. We look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to bring this important development to life."
Britcon is proud to be part of this growing development and looks forward to delivering a scheme that supports both sustainable construction and community impact.
