Topping Out Ceremony Marks Major Milestone in Goole’s Victoria Pleasure Grounds Redevelopment
A significant milestone has been reached in the £7 million transformation of the Victoria Pleasure Grounds in Goole, as the steel framework for the new pavilion has now been erected. This marks a pivotal moment in the redevelopment of the site, which is being delivered with support from the Goole Town Deal and the Football Foundation.
To celebrate this achievement, a topping out ceremony was held on site last week, attended by key stakeholders including the Mayor of Goole, Councillor James Cooper, Phil Jones, Chair of the Goole Town Deal Board, and members of the Britcon team, including Commercial Director Matt Searston.
The Goole Town Deal Board has allocated over £4.6 million towards the redevelopment, with an additional £2.2 million provided by the Football Foundation. The newly installed steel structure offers the first visual indication of the revitalised sports and leisure facilities that will soon be available to the local community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Phil Jones commented:
“With the highest part of the new pavilion structure now in place, Britcon organised the topping out ceremony to commemorate this exciting milestone in the redevelopment of the Victoria Pleasure Grounds. It was wonderful to be invited along to see the fantastic progress that has been made on the second phase of the redevelopment work, which began earlier in the summer following the installation of the new artificial grass pitches and athletics facilities.
“Week-by-week and month-by-month, we’re edging ever closer to having a top-class community sport and events venue that the entire town can be proud of, which will be enjoyed by hundreds of local people every week.”
Councillor James Cooper added:
“As well as benefiting existing users of the site, this enhanced community facility is also for future generations of children, and adults who may never have been involved with the Victoria Pleasure Grounds before.
“As always, we’re incredibly grateful to all those people living nearby for their patience during the construction phase. We will continue to make every effort to keep disruption, noise and mess to a minimum, but thank you all for bearing with us during what has been a particularly busy phase of the project.”
Britcon’s Managing Director, Nick Shepherd, also shared his thoughts:
“We’re proud to have reached this stage and to be part of a project that will have such a positive impact on the Goole community. The steel structure represents more than just a construction milestone it symbolises collaboration, commitment, and the exciting future ahead for the town.”
The redevelopment will deliver a modern, inclusive two-storey pavilion featuring changing rooms, spectator areas, and a hospitality suite. Designed to support grassroots sport and promote community wellbeing, the new facilities will provide a welcoming space for all.
Special thanks are extended to Britcon Steel for their exceptional craftsmanship and collaboration, which have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life.
As construction progresses, anticipation continues to build for the lasting benefits this development will bring to Goole’s residents and sporting community.
