Britcon Engineering Services secured a £1.6 million contract with BASF to extend facilities at its world leading bio-acrylamide product facility in Bradford.

BES is manufacturing and installing the steel framework for a new building dedicated to the production of Poly acrylamide, which is used in the extraction of oil from water, at the COMAH site which covers 50 acres.

Headquartered in Germany, BASF is the largest chemical manufacturer in the world. The BASF Group comprises subsidiaries and joint ventures in more than 80 countries and operates six integrated production sites and 390 other production sites in Europe, Asia, Australia, the Americas and Africa.

The Bradford site is one of the largest and most productive single site chemical plants in the UK with an annual output of more than 250,000 tonnes, of which 84 per cent is exported.

The 300 tonne seven storey structure, supplied by BES, is to be installed within and will punch through the roof of an existing building finishing 16m above the existing roof level.
Kevin Cocker, Senior Construction Manager at BES said, “We are delighted to secure this contract, our first working directly for BASF, the majority of which will be manufactured at our fabrication facility in Scunthorpe. The new structure sits within an existing production building with the upper levels extending above the roof of the building, to avoid the risks associated with working at height the upper levels have been designed in modules such that they can be assembled and clad at ground level, and then lifted in place as single lifts with the on-site tower crane.
This is a complex procedure but one we have extensive experience of carrying out, especially within the Network Rail Infrastructure where this type on installation is the norm.”

BES is working alongside Richard Allen Engineering who are acting as Principal Contractor and are a specialist equipment manufacturer and installer for the Process Industry.
