Britcon were awarded this prestigious contract in 2007 forming part of the overall upgrading of this area of Cleethorpes.

The Integrated Development Plan or IDP scheme is a significant phase of the upgrading of Cleethorpes tourism infrastructure. The project follows the earlier completion of Phase 1 'The Events Arena' earlier in the year by Britcon.

The IDP scheme itself, consists of 3 phases. Phase one is the control tower for the Events Arena, Phase two is a set of seven craft units, and phase three is a curved extension to the already existing discovery exhibition centre next to the boating lake.

The program came into being when the council recognized the importance of the coastal economy, and in an attempt to diversify and attract more tourists, the IDP scheme was created.

An Events Control building was constructed at the Arena using innovative design and materials and providing a focus for Arena visitors and offices for Arena management. General Infrastructure included pedestrian access, high quality perimeter mounding and landscaping (to ensure noise attenuation for surrounding residential and tourist accommodation) and public art. Also, the formation of a Piazza to craft units' area.

The Craft Units were built to a high quality, BREEAM - very good standard close to the Events Arena. The enhancement of existing facilities and activities was publicly funded on land owned by the Local Authority.
Finally the Discovery Centre was extended and refurbished to provide exhibition expansion and enhance its lakeside frontage with new promenade/decking and access to a new meeting room/lecture theatre block. The new facilities give opportunities for exhibitions, trade fairs, seminars, networking, alongside the Events Arena.
