Works Scope

We were appointed as lead contractor to transform and extend the former Grade II Listed building into a first-class campus, maximising the value of a £2.3 million funding package on top of local authority funding.

The project was delivered in two phases. Phase 1 included the refurbishment of the ground and first floor areas, window replacements, new lift and staircase extensions and roof coverings.

The redevelopment included new mechanical, electrical and heating systems and IT infrastructure. New teaching facilities included state-of-the-art lecture theatres, study areas, IT centre, digital, engineering and construction laboratories with a contemporary conference suite.

How we successfully delivered the project

The project was procured via a collaborative framework. We engaged early with the council and college to develop an optimum construction programme and phasing plan to work around the college term times. We also engaged with the local conservation officer to ensure the integrity of the listed building was retained. We engaged early with
suppliers to identify low carbon solutions and products to support the college achieve their carbon reduction targets. Our team used 4Projects project management software to support collaboration and transparency with the client, project team and designers.

We used a carbon calculator and carbon reduction plan to drive down carbon and developed a very targeted social value plan to support NEETS and unemployed people from deprived areas of the town. A social value plan maximised local job creation and retention.
