Works Scope
Britcon was appointed to deliver the construction works on a new Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plant in Dagenham for food waste recycler, ReFood UK Ltd. The new £32m plant is the most advanced, integrated, AD plant dedicated to food waste in the South of England. This scheme was a Gas to Grid facility and Waste to Energy project.
As Principal Contractor for the project, Britcon was appointed to manage the entire 66-week build project including groundworks, remediation works, piling operations, structural steelwork buildings and construction of works for multiple high-rise, post-tensioned, circular, reinforced-concrete digester Receiving and Gas Storage tanks together with overall responsibility for site safety and coordination, working with numerous client-appointed specialised contractors.
The programme also included the delivery of a Carbon Neutral, high-specification office complex and state-of-the-art De-packaging building with a deep basement, numerous process structures and external and landscaping works.
Key Project Challenges
- Managing numerous client-appointed specialised contractors.
- Carbon Neutral, high-specification office building.
- Management of a complex, multi-faceted project.
- Risk and Cost Management.
How we successfully delivered the project
The project consisted of over 20,000 m3 of earthwork remodeling and the removal of surplus material, major civils and infrastructure works, the management and co-ordination of international AD specialist subcontractors and suppliers. Alongside the new AD plant, a new high-bay 34,000 sq. ft storage facility and 6,500 sq. ft two-storey office building was constructed.
As Principal Contractor, Britcon’s team successfully managed this complex project having overall responsibility for site safety and coordination, working with the client and several specialised contractors. We coordinated the design and programme with the use of 3D modelling and introduced collaborative planning techniques before the construction works commenced on site.
Engagement in the detailed design phase with our internal and external teams provided a successful delivery plan.
